Our St. Patrick’s Family Fun Day was a massive success! ��

From the moment the doors opened, there was a real buzz in the air, with families, friends, and members of the community coming together to celebrate such a special occasion. The atmosphere throughout the day was incredible full of laughter, music, and smiling faces at every turn .

We were so proud to see all our staff get fully involved, going above and beyond to make the day as enjoyable as possible. Eileen’s Wellbeing Centre was transformed into a vibrant hub of activity, with a wide range of stalls and entertainment running all day.

From fun games and face painting for the children, to music, food, and traditional touches that brought a real sense of Irish culture to life there was truly something for everyone."

What made the day even more special was seeing the Irish community come together in such a meaningful way. It was heart-warming to witness people of all ages connecting, celebrating their heritage, and creating lasting memories with one another. The sense of togetherness and pride was felt throughout the entire event.

Events like this remind us just how important community is, and how powerful it can be when people come together to celebrate, support one another, and simply enjoy being in each other’s company.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended, supported, and helped make the day so memorable.

Your energy and enthusiasm made it what it was, and we are so grateful to be part of such a wonderful community. .

Celebrate Irish culture, community spirit, and family fun at the St Patrick’s Family Fun Day 2026, a lively and welcoming event set to bring people of all ages together for an unforgettable afternoon. ( see flyer )

Taking place on Sunday 15th March 2026 at the Irish Centre, (205 Wheeler’s Lane, Kings Heath, Birmingham), the festivities begin at 12 noon, with a packed programme of entertainment, activities, and delicious food that captures the true joy of St Patrick’s celebrations.

This vibrant family event is designed so everyone can join in the fun. Throughout the day, you’ll be able to enjoy fantastic live bands and music, creating a buzzing atmosphere filled with traditional Irish tunes and feel-good performances."

Children will have plenty to keep them entertained with a colourful funfair, exciting games, and face painting, while adults can browse stalls, socialise with friends, and soak up the festive energy.

The ever-popular tombola adds an extra layer of excitement, giving visitors the chance to win prizes while supporting the event.

Food lovers will be well catered for with classic favourites like Irish sausage baps perfect for enjoying while listening to the music or relaxing with family. You’ll also be able to explore Fitzgerald’s Irish Store, which will be open on the day selling a range of authentic Irish products, making it a great opportunity to pick up something special.

With entry priced at just £10 and free admission for children under 10, the day offers fantastic value for a full programme of entertainment, making it an ideal outing for families, friends, and anyone looking to celebrate Irish culture in a warm and friendly environment. Statement From the Organising Team

The team behind Birmingham St. Patrick’s Parade has issued the following statement regarding the postponement of the upcoming parade, originally scheduled to take place on Sunday, 16th March 2025, in Digbeth.

Maurice Malone, Chief Executive at Birmingham Irish Association and head of the Parade organising team, said:

“It was with a heavy heart that we announced the postponement of the St. Patrick's Parade, that was scheduled to take place on Sunday, 16th March 2025 , in Digbeth. This decision was not made lightly, and we deeply regret any disappointment this may have caused to our incredible community, participants, and supporters.

"Our primary goal has always been to deliver a safe, enjoyable, and memorable parade that celebrates the vibrant Irish community in Birmingham. Year after year, thousands of you have joined us, rain or shine, to show your support and share in the joy of this cherished tradition. For that, we are immensely grateful.

"However, safety is paramount , and as organisers, we are not prepared to compromise on this fundamental principle. Despite countless hours of planning and the unwavering dedication of our volunteers, partners, and supporters, the gap between what we can deliver with the resources and finances available, and the requirements to host a safe and successful parade proved too wide to bridge at this time.

"We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who had worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make this event possible, including:

Our incredible volunteers, whose passion and commitment inspire us every day.
West Midlands Police and Birmingham City Council, for their invaluable support and guidance.
The many partners and sponsors who have stood by us during this challenging process.

"While this decision is undoubtedly disappointing, please know that we are already working on plans to ensure the St. Patrick's Festival remains a vibrant and cherished celebration in our community. We are committed to keeping the celebration of the parade alive in our city and look forward to celebrating with you all in the near future.

It is that time of year again… The St Patrick’s Day Parade 2025 is back.

This year it is going to be even bigger and better.

IT’S COMING HOME!

We are delighted to announce that our much loved St Patrick's Parade will be returning to its traditional route for 2025.

Last year’s parade was the first back since Covid and following the feedback from those who attended we are bringing it back to Digbeth High Street.

The High Street has undergone an extensive redevelopment and we hope it will now provide larger and safer viewing areas along the length of the route for everyone to enjoy .

The success of the parade is built on those who come along and support it, so hopefully we will see you all there.

The date of the parade will be Sunday 16th March 2025 from 12:00pm - 2:00pm . (Please arrive early to secure a great viewing spot along the route)

Birmingham St Patrick’s Day Parade 2024 – a great success

So, the dust has settled on the 2024 St Patrick's Parade .

We have now had time to catch our breath, have some much needed rest and reflect on its long awaited return.

Firstly we need to say a massive thank you to everyone who supported the parade and embraced our vision to take it back to its roots. It was by no means perfect and we have learned a lot which, going forward, will help to shape future parades and make the experience even more enjoyable .

We will be carrying out a community consultation in the next few weeks to gather your views ... at the end of the day it’s your parade. Maybe we can’t compete with Dublin and New York as the biggest parades in the world but we can certainly compete to be the best!

"We are currently crunching the numbers and we will be publishing the cost of running the parade via our website in due course."

Dandara Living supports the St. Patrick's Parade 2024

Dandara Living is delighted to be sponsoring six local school walking groups at this year’s St Patrick’s Day Parade in Birmingham.

Thanks to their support, the parade will see groups from Bishop Challoner Catholic College, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Primary School, SS John and Monica Catholic Primary School, St Alban's Catholic Primary School, St Anne's Catholic Primary School and St Catherine of Siena Catholic Primary School all taking part in the parade through Digbeth on Saturday 17 March.

Mass will take place at St Anne’s Church Digbeth on Sunday 17th March at 10am.

The parade will commence from the top of Bradford Street (Camp Hill) at 12 noon.

The parade will halt to tribute Shane MacGowan led by Birmingham Irish Pipes & Drums we will sing “Dirty old town” at 12:45pm.

St Patrick’s Day Parade 2024 returns to Digbeth

Birmingham Irish Association are pleased to bring the St Patricks Day

festival under its remit.

Anyone that attended the Pairc Festival over the August 2023 Bank Holiday weekend will have heard

the tremendous news that the St. Patrick’s Parade will return to Digbeth on Sunday 17th March 2024,

with the intent for this to take place annually.

In March 2023, Maurice Malone, Chief Executive of Birmingham

Irish Association said;

“Birmingham Irish Association are pleased to bring the annual Birmingham St Patricks Day festival under its remit and will take the opportunity to review, refresh and refocus the Parade, revitalised in the 1990’s. In no small way we believe the St Patrick’s Day festival and the Irish community helped to keep Digbeth alive and turn it into the vibrant cultural area it is today, but due to circumstances beyond anyone’s control it will not happen in this location in 2023.

“We aim to secure the Parade for future generations and showcase all Irish Traditional culture, music, dance, language and Gaelic sports, and the contribution of the Irish community to Birmingham. BIA will be working with participants, partners and Birmingham City Council to see what is feasible given timeframes and budget pressures and location issues. Discussions are in the early stages and no firm decisions have been made.”

We will be releasing more information as we move closer to the event which will be

shared via social media and our website updates.

Andy Street: I can’t wait to join the St Patrick’s Day Parade

It’s coming back! The St Patrick's Day parade is set to return after a three-year hiatus next year, and I wanted to use my column this month to congratulate and thank everyone at the Birmingham Irish Association for making it happen.

I promised back in March that I would support Maurice Malone and the team at the BIA in their efforts to get the parade back, and I’m delighted that it’s happening.

We all know that the Covid-19 pandemic - followed by the roadworks in Digbeth - meant this hugely popular event, which attracted about 80,000 people, has not been held since 2019.

The Birmingham parade dates back to 1952, was one of the first in Britain and, for a time, and was reckoned at one point to be the third biggest in the world.

The returning parade is being supported by Pairc Festival next year,

which is a celebration of Irish music and culture, and will launch

its 2024 event on the same day.

The Parade is not only a hugely important calendar date for our Irish community, but also one of those brilliant, iconic events that illustrate

the real cultural diversity and unity of the city and our region.

Now, the planning and organising starts. The event will take place on St Patrick's Day itself, 17 March, and be accompanied by a festival and concerts, with artists including Keith Duffy, Brian McFadden and Nathan Carter performing across the weekend.

After the huge success of the Commonwealth Games, Birmingham is attracting more and more visitors. The welcome return of the St Patrick’s Day Parade to our annual calendar of events provides another vibrant, colourful attraction that shows off the city at its very best.

I know that the BIA will be working hard already to organise a memorable Parade, which will once again see thousands take to the streets to celebrate this very special day for our Irish community.
